Fifth Fleet

Originating from before the Virtual War, the Imperial Colonization Authority Space Force Fifth Fleet is one of the oldest and most decorated battlegroups in human history. The original fleet consisted of twelve capital ships and fifteen auxiliary ships stationed in the asteroid belt. During the course of the war, all but two of the ships were destroyed in action. The modern Fifth Fleet is assigned to Naval Group North. It is stationed in the coreward direction of the galaxy and consists of several thousand ships.

During the opening acts of the Virtual War, the Fifth Fleet deployed to destroy probes launched from Earth before they could escape the solar system. As the war progressed on, the original twelve ships were supplemented with twenty more from Jupiter’s shipyards. However, attrition and lack of resources eventually reduced the number of combat capable ships to eight. Six ships were strapped to large asteroids in the Asteroid Belt and used to ram Earth, destroying the majority of the Virtual superhives.

The Fifth Fleet served with distinction against xeno armadas on the frontier during the Subversion Wars, participating in over two hundred battles. After the war, the fleet was permanently stationed on the frontier as a peacekeeping force.

The Fifth Fleet was stranded on the northern frontier along with several trillion colonists and five thousand worlds during the Second Virtual War. With most of the main force cut off due to the shutdown of the local gate, the fleet resorted to hit and run tactics. However, as the conflict progressed, the fleet replenished its forces back to standard fleet size thanks to the shipbuilding capabilities of Mea Anchorage. The fleet recorded the highest losses in human history after the conflict but as a result became one of the most elite battlegroups in the ICASF.
