Io Star Drives (ISD) is a subsidy of the [[jovian_shipbuilding_company|Jovian Shipbuilding Company]] and specializes in conventional fusion drives, near lightspeed torch drives, and [[skip_drive|WQP Skip Drives]]. ISD accounts for 64% of all military starship propulsion systems within the Order.

==== History ====

Originally founded during the Stellar Age, Io Star Drives is a long standing and highly efficient company that produces military starship grade drives. The company joined the Jovian Conglomerate during The War of the Giants and provided nuclear fission and fusion drives to the Jovian Space Force. The entire surface of the moon was slowly converted to automated fabrication, testing, and research facilities over centuries of development. 

Modern ISD fusion drives can maintain 0.3-0.5Gs of acceleration for months at a time with incredibly high ISP, reducing the need for artificial gravity and vastly shortening transit times. ISD focuses mainly on military drive procurement with the exception of producing drives for linelayer torchships. Civilian ships rely on minor drive construction companies which use the same technology that ISD has developed.

Drives manufactured by Io Star Drives are catapulted by its many surface mass drivers directly to [[callisto_shipyards|Callisto Shipyards]], where they are captured and assembled into full starships.
