XM-200 Multi Purpose Missile
The XM-200 Multi Purpose Missile (MPM) is an experimental casaba howitzer typed weapon.
Design
The MPM is an experimental Casaba Howitzer type guided weapon. Compared to the Anvil, it is half as large and a staggering 10 times cheaper. It utilizes a nuclear explosive formed penetrator instead of a standard nuclear explosion for damaging effects, and as such can only damage targets in a cone directly ahead of itself.
Usage
The 0.1kt thermonuclear warhead is tiny in comparison to the STS line of missiles. However, the nuclear device is only used as a primer to generate a molten tungsten stream moving at a percentage the speed of light. This ‘thermal lance’ can punch holes in a tiny cone directly ahead of the missile. This allows the MPM to engage outside of CIWS range, as well as efficiently utilize the explosive energy instead of radiating it in all directions. The limiting factor is that the missile has to be pointed directly at the target with a very small margin of error.
The MPM can be employed in missile interception, anti-strike craft defense, or general purpose anti-ship duty. While cheap and efficient, the MPM has issues damaging metamaterial armor and has a very small area of effect.
