Factions

this article is sussy and written in short form

  • A two man LLC that specializes in delivering highly sensitive materials in heavily contested areas
  • Also provides special services such as client protection or target assassination
  • Main operator is Emi, a genetically enhanced human with superhuman speed and strength
  • Owned by a man named “Boss” who always wears a full face mask and suit whenever seen in public. Finds contracts for Emi as well as negotiates deals
  • Started several years before the collapse and thrived on delivering expensive tech parts to dangerous areas in the undercity for ICA repair crews
  • Emi lives in a run down apartment structure in a small Nightlander settlement, but her room and belongings are decently fancy thanks to her salary. Her neighbors are all senior citizens who she helps out when not on a mission
  • Boss' residence is unknown. It's speculated that he's not even human and is just an AI that inhabits a new body whenever he needs to make an appearance in person
  • The original monolithic ruling structure of the planet
  • The ICA is made up of both human and O1/O2 AI citizens
  • They still control many loyalist sectors but their once unlimited resources and power have deteriorated significantly
  • By their original mandate, the ICA will help anyone in need, but this is quickly becoming an issue due to the massive shortages in supplies and the architecture needed to support such a large population
  • Also due to the mandate, the ICA heavily condemns any ruling or governing power that isn't itself, and will actively seek to disassemble and absorb these groups into itself
  • They are seeking any way to re-establish the link with CYNTHIA and bring order to the planet once more
  • The ICASF garrison fleet was dispatched away from the planet to find help since they are equipped with skip drives, allowing faster than light travel without the use of the gates
  • The ICA also has the largest reserve of antimatter available
  • ICA sectors are fairly safe but are quickly deteriorating into anarchy with the looming food and power crisis on the horizon

  • Baseline-Near baseline human PMC that serves the highest bidder
  • Small contingent of O2 warforms
  • Heavily armed and armored grunts
  • When not on a job, DECA contractors are actually quite friendly and send money or supplies back to their communities to try to rebuild
  • Many DECA contractors are ICA loyalists, but the ICA is very close to labeling DECA as a violator of the unification mandate
  • When on a job, DECA will demolish anything between them and their objective in order to fulfill their contract
  • Survived the collapse by setting up a de facto military government and rallying many of the surviving PDF troops and equipment
  • Prioritize controlling food production facilities, water treatment plants, and climate control centers

  • Completely AI group comprised of remnant O1 and O2 warforms that have gone rouge since the link to CYNTHIA was severed through the destruction of the gate
  • Usually isolationist but the current situation means they are sometimes willing to negotiate deals with other factions
  • The AIs have experienced true self actualization now that their link to CYNTHIA is broken, leading to many going insane. Surviving AIs are separated into two groups: One looking for a way to relink with CYNTHIA and one looking to coalesce into an O4 to wrest control from Cynthia.
  • Proritize controlling computing centers, power generation hubs, and manufactories
  • As long as they are within reach of a node, they can upload their minds at the point of death and install themselves into a new body
  • ICA cyberwarfare intelligences actively hunt down and attack Vector intelligences on the surviving pieces of the planetary internet
  • Vultures are a generic term for any off-world individual visiting the planet for personal gain
  • Many are cargo runners who deliver food and water from other planets at exorbant prices
  • The more daring ones dive deep into the undercity to scavenge for rare and expensive technology to pawn off
  • Many also act as a taxi service to ferry people from the ecumenopolis to other less crowded worlds at a high price
  • The number of vultures has decreased over time due to the collapse of the neighboring systems
  • Utopians are violently isolationist humans living in the still functioning paradise sectors in the undercity
  • Paradise sectors were built solely for recreation and decadence
  • Most of these sectors are self sustaining and their residents live in pre-collapse conditions
  • The entrances to these sectors are heavily guarded and will kill anyone on sight
  • Even ICA loyalist forces have trouble breaking through Utopian strongholds and have resigned to leaving them alone
  • A general term for the millions of splinter groups scouring the ruins of the ecumenopolis for resources to survive
  • Most are aggressive and will kill and steal without a second thought
  • Groups may have as few as 10 members or as many as several thousand
  • These groups are most prevalent in Near*Dead and Total Deadzones. These zones contain little to no life and usually have dangerous weather, temperatures, and hostile AI, but also contain the largest caches of untouched food and supplies.
  • Former ICA citizens living out in Near-Dead areas, renouncing the central government and living in small communities instead
  • ICA troops usually leave them alone but sometimes use the mandate as an excuse to occupy their settlements and take their resources
  • There are countless numbers of villages, towns, and even cities built around supply caches in the deadzones
  • The same as Deadlanders but they live in the permanent night sections of the ecumenopolis
  • Most are sickly and have very pale skin
  • Other factions usually leave them alone because raiding night zones is a dangerous endeavour since it is easy to get lost or be ambushed in the dark
  • There are a few Nightlander cities that glow gently in the dark and are centers of trade
  • Smaller Nightlander settlements are often safehouses and roadstops for travelers and mercenaries alike
  • Citizens inhabiting the massive maglev train system known as the Loop
  • Loopers are formed into two groups, those who live on the trains in the still functioning sections of the Loop and those who have built cities in the nonfunctioning tunnel systems
  • Loopers fill a niche for the other factions as a form of mass transit and trade, leading to the formation of the Loop Guilds
  • Loop cities siphon electricity off the Loop power network, providing a huge surplus of energy
  • Loop cities, being built in the tunnels, have little to no access to food or water and must rely on imports and exports to survive.
  • Loop train societies thrive on trading goods between the sections and other Loop cities
  • Their main export are power cells and recharging as a service
